Now working on a few small things:

  1. Commissions, starting with the second part of [ THIS ] commission.
  2. Roll20 Avatars for Noble and Dust.
  3. THIS ]

Is this a fashion or something? Because the word lolita has nothing to do with this?

Lolita is a Japanese fashion styled after Victorian and Rococo dress styles. It’s incredibly popular amongst certain types of people the world over.

There’s a numerous styles of it; gothic, country, pirate, sweet, sailor, classic, punk, guro and so on.

Have a look at the Derpibooru “lolita fashion” tag (that I spent this morning cleaning out).

Okay, I have a class to go to, but I just wanted to comment on this. Every time I see drawings of Sappy I get really bugged by that blue…

The blue itself is fine! Nothing wrong with having a highly saturated main colour… but I think it stands out too much against the grey coat, destracting the eye and making it harder to actually appreciate the image as a whole. Here’s a quick throw-in from me before I go to class:

Full Size PNGs:

[ FOLDER I BEFORE I AFTER ]

Reason I see is that the mane is highly saturated, while the coat has no saturation at all. Almost everything has SOME colour! In the above GIF I made a very rough filter over her coat in some areas as stated on the right. It’s a majorly subtle change (probably totally irrelevant to most people), but I think it brings out her coat a great deal and makes her a lot more pleasant to behold.

Doesn’t have to be purple, but I do recommend at least using a colour other than pure blue. Keeps the contrast there.

That’s the only one I think is REALLY needed (no matter how pedantic it may seem).

My other thoughts (as shown) are that you should desaturate the yellow, primarily, since it clashes with the blue at such high brightness, I think… maybe also add some colour to the Pipbuck (most of my designs have it a really silvery green), but they’re just trim and it’s not nearly as prolific.

EDIT: Expanded my example.

More Roll20 doodles.

Some by me, most by Kalemon. Roll20 is a nightmare to draw in, sadly.

(Some of the character tokens are drawn by us or friends, some borrowed/edited work from others, I think.)

Character rundown if interested:

Made this blog a subdomain for my site. Dunno why I didn’t do this earlier.

EDIT:

Felt like I should share the other stuff that came from this, even if it’s barely different or mostly just a doodle.

  1. Pretty much the whole reason the piece came about- was playing with positioning legs and memorising a more realisting equine skeleton.
  2. Initial positing i chose for the drawing
  3. COMPLETE ACCIDENT. Pretty much the only reason i ended up drawing a full skeleton.
  4. Last variant i didn’t post because my SAI crapped out. Also it’s transparent.
  5. Transparent skeleton only; for reference, PnP tokens… whatever. Feel free to make use of it, though I’d rather like too be credited for anything dramatic. (Please don’t just use it as a base though… I’m REALLY not a fan of that practice).
Lucid’s priority list

Posting another of these as an update for commissioners and anyone wondering why I’m not producing much:

1. Money stuff

  • Won’t go into details.
  • Save for commissioning Joaftheloaf a music track for future animation showreels. (Yes, this is a thing I’m doing and have spoken to the artist about.)

2. Finish Commissions:

  • Krootman’s two OC commissions
  • Tofu’s Greaser comm
  • Nightshade’s OC (inc.redesigned colours)
  • Mother’s two Cobalds
  • Muny Company piece

3. Open More commissions

  • Chase up cover commission request.
  • I may be required to up my commission timeline due to the above point 2. Depends what happens. I may do so regardless to save money for some other things.
1. Uni work for tomorrow:
- Scan stupid storyboard thing for classmate, Finish Uni animation work for collab tonight (easy), export full piece with new animation

1. Finish up uni piece
play with in after effects and reexport

This is basically how I go about designing my characters. The image shows what factors feed directly into other factors… and why I work in that order.

The idea is that a normal unicorn living in show-style canterlot will have very different interests, personality and talents to a Fallout Equestria Pegasus- the environments are so totally different along with the thigs they have the chance to be good at.

Some factors just don’t matter in determining others… I also kinda think that Name and Cutie Mark don’t have to match, but they’ll correlate due to the same deciding factors.

THEME refers to an overarching idea- Rainbow Dash is all about speed, which is affected by her personality, where she lives and her race. A Unicorn in Canterlot would likely be much less interested i becoming the fastest Pony in Equestria. Her theme is a little more than just her talent though… it’s speed AND colour AND flashiness!

from that we get her talent, colours, name and cutie mark… though each is also fed into by other things.

why do you just keep reposting the same pictures over and over again?

I don’t, as a rule. Usually I just edit a post if it’s not a big change… in most cases there’s a good reason to post it again- be it a complete redraw, separate version finished later or that I altered something months and months later.

I don’t, however, like bunching stuff up- as with the shirt posts I wanted to keep the shirts separate to the actual artwork.

Commission changes.

Okay, so for now I’m just gonna post this up practically empty and update/reblog when I finish detailing it out. Anything posted here is subject to change and likely will before I finally open them again.

The reason i’m changing them is because right now they simply don’t pay enough for the time put in and I just get frustrated if one takes longer than I’d like, which happens way more often than not.

Here’s the three tiers I (currently) have in mind

  1. First thing of note is that I’ll be doing unrefined, quick sketches (such as these) for £3.50. Maybe a bit more if i think it’ll take me more than half an hour to do.
  2. the higher and highest tiers will be merged and start at £25 (which assumes about 3 and half hours’ work minimum due to refining for a cleaner lineart.
  3. The current rough tier will likely be £10+ and essentially be a coloured, more refined version of the sketch tier.

Bear in mind this is all more or less based on aiming for £7 per hour spent drawing…. which is what I’d be looking for were i to do weekend job instead. If I’m not at least coming CLOSE to that it’s not worth my time… spending 5+ hours on £15 is NOT very pleasant when £6.50 is minimum hourly wage here (balanced to cost of living, of course).

Will be reflected in the commission page before I open them again

Going to finalise these now. Once done, I’ll open a few slots to be done SLOWLY… as in across the next month or two because I have a lot of catchup to do at uni (also I’ll be in Czech Republic a week).
